It wasn’t the night I imagined we’d have but none of that matters. Jules is with me.

I should have held back instead of mauling her in the car. The whirlwind of activity since we met has left little time for me to ease her into the idea of us being together.

At first I wanted her in my bed, now I know how precious she is I’m playing for keeps. So today I'll make sure her needs are met before mine are. She’s exhausted, we both need sleep.

I guide her gently from the garage into the open plan living and dining area. “It’s been a long night, let’s get some rest.” I turn towards the hallway leading to the bedrooms.

“Wait.” She stops, her attention caught by the view beyond the glass wall of my lounge room.

Outside the sun is rising, illuminating the beach and sparkling across the waters one ray at a time. The house is designed around this view of the bay.

I stand back, absorbing this vision of her in my space. Jules is bathed in the golden tint of warm morning light. Her red hair glitters, and the intriguing hills and valleys of her curves are presented lovingly by the sun for my eyes.

She looks like she belongs here.

“Ash, your home is beautiful.”

I’m glad she likes it. Usually, I don’t care what people think but it’s important to me she’s comfortable. Having her here feels right.

“Make yourself at home.” I cross to the kitchen and grab two glasses of water.

Jules sits on my black leather sectional, her shoes kicked off and her legs tucked beneath her. She's arranged herself so she can take in the view. It's adorable the way she's dwarfed by the couch, sitting daintily amongst the cushions.

I cross the room, joining her. She accepts the glass I offer and slides sideways so there’s room for me next to her on the couch. I ease into the corner and pull her against my side.

We watch the sunrise together.

“Thank you for taking care of me.”

“You don’t need to thank me, Jules.”

She feels so right against me. There’s a lot of things I want to say, they’re on the tip of my tongue in the still air of morning but I hold back. Now is not the time.

I don’t know yet if they’re declarations or demands.

It’s selfish to think of binding someone so young a full of potential to a man like me. I’m selfish though, and I know I don’t want her to leave. Things went from a kiss to uncontrollable lust in moments. Jules needs to know this is about more than just sex.

She leans her head against my shoulder, beginning to fall asleep. I stroke her hair, enjoying the soft texture against my hand.

My mind is made up. Tomorrow I’ll show Jules how well I can take care of her. I’ll give her a day so perfect she’ll never want to leave.
